MUMBAI:
US-based media conglomerate Walt Disney has slashed 1900 jobs
at its California-based theme parks as part of its reorganising
operations.
Declining
footfalls in the theme parks, including Disneyland and Disneyworld,
prompted the company to take such a step.
Around
1400 posts have been laid off alone from Florida, 300 have
been cut off from Disneyland, while almost 700 open positions
will be kept unfilled.
Disney spokeswoman Tasia Filippatos said, "These decisions
were not made lightly but were essential to maintain our leadership
in family tourism and reflect today's economic realities."
Disney
has a strength of about 62,000 workers.
