| MUMBAI:
Call it the impact of the weather gods on the Indian Premier League (IPL). That,
combined with the general election season and the weekday factor, conspired to
see the ratings of the IPL fall.
The four matches from Sunday till Tuesday reaped an average rating of 5.02 compared
to the opening double header TVR of 5.5, according to Tam data (C&S 4+) across
six metros. Another
game during this period was abandoned due to rain, putting pressure on the broadcaster
Max to wring the maximum value out of a rights deal that several media analysts
feel is overpriced. The
rating particularly faded on Tuesday during the match beween Kolkata Knight Riders
and Kings X1 Punjab, fetching only a TVR of 3.64 (way below last year's average
of 4.8). The match aired at 4 pm when a chunk of the viewers were away at work.
It was also spoilt by rain, curtailing the contest by 10 overs. The
contest between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore, which aired
at 8 pm, got a TVR of 6.02, the highest IPL average rating for a match across
the six metros. This was more than the Sunday double header which got an average
rating of 5.2. Once
again digital homes have fared better, scoring an average TVR of 6.22. The peak
rating of eight came from the match between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers
Bangalore. The opening double header on Saturday had got a rating of 6.9 among
digital homes. Also
