MUMBAI: Amazon.com has partnered with TiVo, the service provider for digital video recording (DVR), to provide movies and television shows on high definition (HD) platform.

TV series on HD platform is priced at $2.99, whereas newly released HD movies will be available on rental basis at a price between $3.99 and $4.99.

With the help of Series3(TM), TiVo HD, or TiVo HD XL, the broadband-connected subscribers can now download HD movies and TV shows direct to their TV sets.

To get access to HD movies and shows, broadband-connected TiVo DVR subscribers initially have to get themselves registered onto Amazon.com. The subscribers can use the remote to search and browse the Amazon selections from the TV screen and can download the selection directly to the TiVo DVR.

"Our customers now have access to HD television and movie choices, many of which are available when the DVDs are released, something no other DVR, cable or satellite company can match," said TiVo GM and VP of content services and advertising sales Tara Maitra.

"TiVo is enabling customers to access our library of movies and TV shows, bringing them directly into the home. Together with TiVo, Amazon video on demand (VOD) is excited to offer HD and increase the selection, quality, and convenience for the TiVo community," said Amazon vice-president music and video Bill Carr.

TiVo Search will include HD results from Amazon along with broadcast and cable programs when a user performs a search.
