MUMBAI:
The Sri Lanka Cricketers' Association (SLCA) and sports minister
Gamini Lokuge have firmed up a proposal that could bring in
$70 million for Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) over the next 10 years,
but will seriously undermine Sri Lanka's international cricket
including the Test tour of England.
The
SLCA and Lokuge have promised the BCCI participation in the
IPL and the Champions League for the next decade.
The
result of this is that players will be released from next
year's England tour. To compensate the loss, the officials
have proposed to the ECB a three-match ODI series after 25
May 2008. Another option is that the SLCA plays in a Stanford
20/20 tournament prior to the World Twenty20 in June.
BCCIs
financial promise to SLCA includes payment each year between
$3-4 million for participating in the Champions League from
2009. There will also be a payment package to the Sri Lanka
board as the players will be participating in the IPL.
