Media stocks take a pounding as Sensex plunges

MUMBAI: As the Sensex shed 800.51 points to end Friday at 10527.85 points, media companies took a severe beating.

While TV18 lost 17.59 per cent to close the day at Rs 116.20, group company IBN18 slipped 7.19 per cent to stand at Rs 87.80. Network18 also dipped 13.72 per cent to close at Rs 102.20.

Zee Group’s direct-to-home (DTH) company Dish TV lost 6.36 per cent to stand at Rs 18.40 while Wire and Wireless India (Zee's demerged cable TV distribution business) fell 7.81 per cent to close at Rs 11.80.

Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd slipped 8.15 per cent to Rs 162.30 while Zee News fell 9.26 per cent to Rs 31.85.

NDTV crawled at Rs 136.75 to lose 5.85 per cent while TV Today fell 9.41 per cent (Rs 51).

UTV Software and Communications slipped 3.55 per cent to end the day at Rs 660.60.

Adlabs Films lost 13.77 per cent to end the day at Rs 218.25 while Mukta Arts slipped Rs 3.62 per cent (Rs 69).

Balaji Telefilms closed at Rs 115.05, falling 7.14 per cent. B.A.G Films and Media's scrip eroded 3.91 per cent to end at Rs 14.75.

FM broadcaster Entertainment Network (India) Limited closed at Rs 185, incurring a lose of 10.02 per cent. Hinduja Ventures, which owns the cable TV business, slipped 5.72 per cent to close at Rs 117.

Among the South Indian companies, Sun TV lost 8.32 per cent (Rs 161.90) while Raj Television also dropped 9.02 per cent (Rs 57).

Pyramid Saimira dipped 14.66 per cent (Rs 61.10).
