MUMBAI:
The face off between broadcasters, producers and the workers
union on workers wages saw no resolution today.
Association
of Motion Pictures and Television Programme Producer of India
(AMPTPP) representatives Manish Goswami, Dheeraj Kumar, JD
Majethia, Deepak Segal and Rajesh Chadha met with the repredentatives
of the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE)
at the latter's office late this evening. But to no avail.
According
to sources, the producers once again expressed that they could
not pay the increased wages that the FWICE was asking for
its members. The union representatives said that with the
rising cost of even basic living standards, it was impossible
for the mazdoors (the lowest level of workers) to survive,
hence their demand was irreversible. The meeting ended inconclusively.
It
may be recalled that on 1 November the Hindi general entertainment
broadcasters issued an ultimatum to the two parties to resolve
their differences by 9 November, failing which they will stop
commissioning any fresh episodes.
In
the meeting today (6 November), the producers association
gave broadcasters notice to FWICE, appealing them to come
back on work. However, the FWICE remains unshaken, and unanimous
in its view that workers will start working, provided, TV
workers and technicians get higher wages.
FWICE
president Dharmesh Tiwari told Indantelevision.com,
Our demand is clear, there is no non-co-operation, if
producers are agreeing to the terms that they agreed with
us in October.
Fox
Television head Deepak Segal, who is a member of producers'
core committee, confirmed that an official statement will
be out in the evening on 7 November; however he refused to
comment on the discussions at the meeting.
