MUMBAI:
NHK VP Yoshinori Imai has been elected as the new president
of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) for three years.
The
ABU president post has been vacant since the then president
Genichi Hashimoto resigned in January.
Imai
said, "Our job, broadcasting is to face many challenges;
a smooth digital migration, accommodating the Internet and
broadband technologies. I would look forward to facing these
challenges, continuing to working with you, enjoying the great
deal of diversity in cultures, values and customs in our region."
Imai
started his TV career at NHK 40 years ago and he was a senior
correspondent in Washington DC, New York and London. Recently,
he has been active as a member of the World Electronic Media
Forum and the Internet Governance Forum.
