MUMBAI:
Sports marketing company Total Sports Asia (TSA) is beefing
up its sales presence in China.
TSA has recently added five senior sales managers to its offices
in Beijing and Shanghai. The team members come from various
industries and bring a skill set vital in targeting local
Chinese companies.
TSA
MD Greater China Chai Peng says, "We have a very clear
strategy by working with major Chinese companies and city
governments and demonstrating to them the importance of leveraging
the power of sports in their marketing and communication mix.
"
Especially after the very successful Beijing Olympics the
interest from Chinese brands to explore this area has picked
up. Our additional local sales managers will focus on specific
industries and unique products which hold strong long-term
opportunities for us."
In
addition to the local team, TSA China has also hired John
St Clair Gibson, as director of sales and business development
who will lend his international sports marketing expertise
to the growing China team. John honed his skills at IMG, Parallel
Media and WSG over the past 8 years in Asia.
During
this time he has built and maintained relationships with many
diverse local and international companies, sports federations
and organizations. John has a comprehensive understanding
of the sports scene in Asia and he joins TSA after heading
up the Events division for both IMG Asia and Parallel Media
Group.
TSA
CEO Marcus Luer said, "Our recent hiring of almost 10
additional sales managers in India and China shows that we
have a lot of faith in these markets despite the global situation.
The fundamentals in our industry and in both markets are strong
and sports marketing is one of the few marketing tools which
clearly cuts through the clutter and can also be a more cost
effective solution in times of tightening budgets then traditional
advertising.
"With
major events being hosted in these countries in the upcoming
years from the Commonwealth Games and World Cup of Cricket
in India to the World Expo and Asian Games in China, these
markets have plenty of upside potential in the short and medium
term."
