MUMBAI:
The strike by the Western India Motion Picture and TV Sound
Engineers Association lasted barely a few hours. Enough to
disrupt a full day's shoot. According to the sound recordists
head BN Tiwari, the FWICE heard their demands and accepted
a revision in the wages. "As compared to the Rs 40,000
a month (Rs 37,000 pay and Rs 3000 conveyance) which had been
settled on yesterday, we have got the figure up to Rs 48,000
a month (Rs 45,000+Rs 3,000)," he said.
According
to the terms agreed, the shift will be from 9 am to 9 pm.
For
assistants (boomman), the monthly wages have been fixed at
Rs 18,000 (Rs 3,000 conveyance extra). The wages for freelance
sound recordists have been fixed at Rs 3,000 a day (no conveyance)
and for assistants Rs 1,000 a day.
Tiwari
says there is no acrimony between producers and the workers.
"We have always worked together and we will continue
to work together in a spirit of harmony."
