MUMBAI: Network18’s sports division Sport18 and CNBC-TV18 have inked an exclusive partnership deal with Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI).

According to the agreement, Sport18 has got the exclusive broadcasting rights for the PGTI and will be promoting professional golf through its marketing expertise. CNBC-TV18, on the other hand, will be the official broadcast partner for professional golf in India.

Network18 MD Raghav Bahl said, "A fundamental shift is occurring in the sports space in the country, with the rise of non-cricket sporting interest. With an expanding pedigree of home grown world class golfers, greater media support and sophisticated management, golf in India can see the same heights as it has achieved internationally. This partnership with PGTI, which truly represents professional golf interests here, will be a landmark for the game in India and a significant opportunity for us as we expand into diversified services and provide greater value to our consumers"

Sport18 CEO Satish Menon said, "This is a great win for us as we expand Sport18's bouquet of properties, rights and services. Golf is clearly at an inflection point in the country and we believe that this partnership will pave the way for its next quantum leap. The synergies between our sports marketing know how and broadcast experience and the committed focus of PGTI on strengthening golf in India will ensure that this partnership is significant in the journey of golf in India."

PGTI is the new entity floated by the Indian professional golf community with a focus on developing, nurturing and maintaining the highest standards of professionalism in the sport. At the moment, PGTI manages an annual calendar of over 20 professional golf tournaments in the country, which is slated to increase from next year onwards.

PGTI president Gautam Thapar said, "Besides providing wider coverage of the game, this agreement will serve to showcase the talent of our golfers, who have been doing exceptionally well at home and abroad. More importantly, TV 18's involvement in golf will go a long way in popularizing the game in India."

Sport18 focuses on sports management which provides umbrella services that include sponsorship sales, sponsorship servicing, marketing, consultancy and International representation.
