MUMBAI: Bharti Airtel has entered into partnership with Cisco to launch managed MPLS (Multi-Protocol Label Switching) services. The service will be launched by Airtel over a period of two years.

The service launch includes a tier 1 MSCP (managed services channel partnership) certification from Cisco for their network and service capabilities to provide managed MPLS VPN (virtual private network) services. The managed MPLS service will provide solutions with end-to-end service assurance to enterprises, for their business networks.

The Cisco MSCP Tier 1 certification is based on third party audit that covers various aspects of the MPLS service, including network architecture, network engineering capabilities, the security on network and service providing capabilities and processes. Airtel has also obtained a certification from Cisco for their tele-presence connection capabilities. The tele-presence service will form a part of Airtel's full suite of audio and video conference services.

Bharti Airtel president enterprise services David Nishball said, “Our aim is to be an end to end managed services provider for Indian enterprises - move beyond network management to offer and provide converged application services on business critical networks. The Cisco Tier 1 certification is a big step in that direction. It reinforces to our customers our world class MPLS network and service offerings capabilities and enables us to provide a host of new industry defining managed service offerings that will help our customers transform their businesses. Our customers will now have access to world class services using the latest technologies on a leasing model offering competitive advantage at low risk. They will be able to manage their internal IT resources and investments better and can focus on IT strategy and not IT integration.”

Cisco India and Saarc (South Asian Association for Regional Co-Operation) Senior VP– service provider Rajesh Chainani said, "We would like to congratulate Airtel on achieving the Tier 1 certification for Cisco's MSCP program. By providing predictable and globally consistent terms and by stabilizing access to in-country products, managed service providers can more easily deliver the network and premise-based managed services, customers demand. With this, we are confident that Airtel will be able to extend the benefits of this program to their enterprise customers while delivering a quality managed service experience."

The services are a part of Airtel's strategy to migrate from TDM (Time Division Multiplexing) to IP (internet protocol) based network services and introduce a full suite of Managed Services for Indian enterprises.
