MUMBAI: Harris, an international communications and information technology company, has bagged an integrated high-definition (HD) broadcast system contract to build new Saudi Television facilities in the holy cities of Mecca and Medina.

This is the fifth HD project awarded to Harris by the Saudi Arabia Ministry of Culture and Information (MOCI) in association with First Gulf Company (FGC), the Riyadh-based dealer and systems integrator.

The contract includes installation of a range of Harris solutions that optimise the channel release, core processing, media transport, newsroom and editing workflow. The new facility includes two HD studio control rooms for production and daily live broadcasting of prayers from the Islamic holy shrines in Mecca and Medina.

Saudi Arabia Ministry of Culture and Information deputy minister of engineering Dr Riyadh Najm says, "The integrated HD workflow solution from Harris will provide an excellent application for our HD facilities in the holy cities of Mecca and Medina."
