MUMBAI:
IEC in Sports has extended its agreement with the Asian Volleyball
Federation (AVC) until 2013, to handle worldwide broadcast
distribution of its events.
The
flagship tournament remains the mens and womens
Asian championships, which is played biannually and
attracts up to 20 national teams each.
AVC
has also boosted their event calendar, with the addition of
the biannual Asian Cup, for the top eight teams in the region.
Also launching is the Asian Beach Volleyball Circuit in 2010.
AVC
president Wei Jizhong says, With China as the defending
Womens Olympic gold medalists; Australia and Japan as
the reigning Asian Champions for indoor volleyball; and Korea
and Thailand fast improving, we are seeing an upsurge of interest
in the sport. Since 2005, IEC has enhanced the television
visibility of AVC events, raised production standards and
generated over 400 hours of live broadcast, per event, across
the continent.
IEC
in Sports CEO Jonas Persson says, It is great to promote
a team sport where Asian nations have enjoyed world-class
success. We want to ensure the majority of Asian sports fans
can see their teams in action in these tournaments.
