DD to kick off show on Lal Bahadur Shastri on 9 March

MUMBAI: Doordarshan's national network (DD-1) will air a new serial, 'Dharti ka Lal-Lal bahadur Shastri,' on Sundays at 10 am, beginning 9 March.

The serial is based on the life of Lal Bahadur Shastri, the person who became India's third Prime Minister and coined the slogan "Jai Jawan Jai Kisaan" (Hail the soldier, Hail the farmer). Shastri died suddenly during a critical tour of Soviet Russia in 1966.

The serial has been directed by Romesh Sharma, narrated by Om Puri and scripted by Kamleshwer.

Shastri had played a significant role in the Indian independence movement. He was born on 2 October 1904 in Uttar Pradesh.
