DELHI: The Barclays Premier League (BPL) Trophy, one of the
most illustrious and recognisable sporting symbols in the
world, visited ESPN Star Sports office in Gurgaon.
 The
trophy visited ESPN Star Sports office as they are the broadcast
partner of BPL in India. The trophy was on a tour in India
and first showcased in a consumer event in Mumbai last week.
ESS
has been showcasing BPL for more than seven years now in India.
This year alone, ESS Sports will showcase more than 250 Barclays
Premier League matches, Live or delayed, on the same day in
India.
Created
by Asprey & Garrard, the official jewellers of Her Majesty's
Crown, the main body of this priceless trophy is made out
of solid sterling silver while the base is made of malachite,
a semi-precious stone found in Africa; the green colour of
the opaque stone represents the football field.
The
design of the trophy, weighing four stones, is based on the
theme of The Three Lions of English Football.
Two
of the lions can be found above the handles on either side
of the trophy. When the captain of the title winning team
raises the trophy (and its gold crown) above his head at the
end of the season, he becomes the third lion.
