MUMBAI:
Marathi general entertainment channel Mi Marathi is set to
launch a new dance reality show - 'Laavni 2008'. The
show will hit the screens on 20 March and will air on Thursdays
and Fridays at 9.30 pm.
The
channel will begin with contestants from major cities across
Maharastra like Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, Kolhapur, Nagpur and
Aurangabad. Two teams from each city comprising six to eight
people from 18-35 age group will be selected.
Mi
Marathi will produce 28-episodes. All the dance forms were
structured around the nine rasa (emotions), namely
Hasya, Shoka, Krodha, Karuna,
Bhibhatsa, Adhbhuta, Bhaya, Viram
and Shanta.
Ashwini
Karandikar who has worked with television shows like Antakshari
and Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, will produce Laavni 2008.
Swapnil Joshi will host the show while Surekha Punekar will
judge the performers along with celebrity judges for every
show.
Laavni
is a 700-year-old traditional folk dance of Maharashtra.
It is a combination of traditional song and dance and is performed
on the beats of the 'dholak' (drum like instrument).
