MUMBAI: American kids thanked their favourite stars at Nickelodeon's 2008 Kids' Choice Awards.

Johnny Depp, Jessica Alba, Eddie Murphy, Miley Cyrus were among those who clinched the orange blimps on Saturday.

The show was hosted by Jack Black and spotlighted stars of TV, movies, music and sports. The kudo/mess-fest took place at UCLA's Pauley Pavilion - "where Hollywood meets the slime" - and gave a new meaning to "Go Green!" The broadcaster says that for the first time three interactive celebrity slime stunts, hosted by Laila Ali and featuring Akon, Usher and Heidi Klum, led to the longest slime time in history - and the climactic superstar sliming of Orlando Bloom and host Black.

More than doubling last year's record-breaking record, 86,708,020 million kids cast online votes from 3-29 March in 18 categories to honour their favourites.

Depp won for Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, Alba was recognised for Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Alvin and the Chipmunks and Ratatouille, respectively, grabbed favourite movie and favourite animated movie. Eddie Murphy clinched a blimp as favourite voice in an animated movie for Shrek the Third. TV awards went to American Idol for favourite reality show, and Drake and Josh won for TV show.

Tony Hawk and Danica Patrick scored for male athlete and female athlete, respectively. In music, Chris Brown seized the male singer award and The Jonas Brothers triumphed as a group; Avril Lavigne's "Girlfriend" won for favourite song. The Harry Potter series by JK Rowling notched the favourite book honour.

Miley Cyrus excited the kid crowd with a production number of Girl's Night Out from her concert tour/movie, and The Naked Brothers Band rocked with I Don't Wanna Go to School. Skateboarders, BMX bikers and in-line skaters leaped and played with moves.

In a show highlight, the "Wannabe Award," an annual honour bestowed on a celebrity role model who kids most "want to be," was presented to Cameron Diaz by Ashton Kutcher. "This is the biggest honour of my entire life! Kids are the future... and I'm honoured to inspire you to change this world," said Diaz.
