MUMBAI:
Pioneer Productions has been commissioned by National Geographic
Channels International (NGCI) to produce Human Ape.
A
two-hour documentary on the genetic and behavioural similarities
and differences between humans and great apes, the show will
premiere on National Geographic Channel US on 17 March 2008
and internationally on National Geographic Channel (NGC) later
this month.
Human
Ape will combine real-life footage of human and ape activity
with state-of-the-art CGI to examine the relationships between
humankind and our simian cousins. It will also chart the progress
of a human and ape from the womb through early development
and beyond, analysing how both develop cognitively, communicate
through emotions and language, use violence and sex, and utilise
tools to manipulate their environments.
Pioneer
Productions MD Stuart Carter says, We have long had
a fascination with our genetic similarities to apes, and this
film explores the question of how far these similarities go.
Pioneer Productions specialises in cutting-edge scientific
documentaries and this two-hour landmark programme provides
viewers with a fascinating insight into what really makes
us human.
NGCI
EVP Sydney Suissa says, With their capacity for memory,
communication and even problem-solving, apes may be more closely
related to humans than we previously thought. Human Ape
uses unique scientific research and some amazing 4D technology
to examine our relationship with apes, enlightening viewers
about our primate cousins.
The
documentary builds on Pioneers FX expertise with credits
including The Living Body, Life Before Birth,
In The Womb: Animals and The Body Atlas, all
of which used an array of visual techniques to explore the
inner world of various living bodies.
