MUMBAI:
The Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA) has appointed
Kenneth Tan to its senior management team as COO and director,
Singapore Film Commission (SFC).
Tan replaces outgoing SFC Director Mr Man Shu Sum. He joins
on 2 May 2008.
The
former MD of Golden Village Singapore and current Chairman
of the Singapore Film Society is an avid champion of local
films.
During
his time at Golden Village, he provided several independent
local feature productions with opportunities for commercial
release at Golden Village cinemas. Prior to his position at
Golden Village, Tan was MediaCorp Radio CEO and MediaCorp
TV COO.
He
also chairs the Promote Mandarin Council and Advisory Committee
of the School of Film and Media Studies at Ngee Ann Polytechnic.
In addition, he sits on the boards of several academic and
cultural institutions.
Tan will oversee MDAs efforts in ensuring that it continues
to provide its partners and clients with highly effective
and efficient services that are geared towards operational
excellence. His empathy for the local film-making sector coupled
with his years of international business experience will help
to grow our film-making talents.
MDA
CEO Dr Christopher Chia says, "We are very pleased to
welcome Kenneth on board. His arrival will help us accelerate
the pace of our industry development and promotion efforts
regionally and internationally, and help groom our creative
talents to make a mark in our budding film-making industry.
"His
rich industry experience and strong business ties will improve
the reach and relevance of Made-by-Singapore media content,
products and services for local and international audiences
and provide greater impetus to our drive to make Singapore
the media gateway between Asia and the world.
Tan
said, I am honoured and excited to become part of the
MDA vision and team at this significant juncture of Singapores
development as a media hub. I look forward to drawing upon
my industry experience and passion to add as much value as
I can to our concerted national effort to etch Singapores
place on the world media map even more deeply.
