NEW DELHI: At the 16th Convergence India 2008 Exhibition and Conference, digital pay-TV technology solutions provider NDS showcased a full range of solutions geared to help TV service providers enable multi-platform convergence, including VideoGuard, MediaHighway middleware and Value@TV.

At a meeting with the press, NDS' corporate director of consumer devices Martin Kaufmann said, "We currently have four platforms in India and a presence at all regions around the globe. We are among the leaders in the industry and we will keep trying to remain there."

"Seventy per cent of our revenue is reinvested back on R&D and that shows our efforts at trying to remain at the helm," he added.

Present, along with Kaufmann, was Digital Entertainment Network (DEN) president Vikas Bali, who said, "DEN believes in a partnership model and selecting the right partner is crucial. After a lot of deliberation, we decided it would be NDS."

Among the technology solutions demonstrated included Tata Sky end-to-end solution featuring VideoGuard conditional access technology, which provides security required for delivering services and premium content to multiple devices, as well as MediaHighway middleware and Value@TV, which deliver interactive services to subscribers.

Also on display was NDS Master User Interface, a next-generation interface that will help viewers to watch what they want through a navigation system operating across multiple devices.

XTV DVR is a DVR solution which facilitates the launch of enhanced new features including push VoD, advanced HD and EPG, live news and sports segmentation and indexing, ITV applications and IP VoD.

Interactive TV is an application for IPTV advanced gaming, interactive advertising and DVR applications.

Speaking about the present condition of television broadcast in India, Kaufmann said, "A substantial sum of money has been put into building the infrastructure and with the more than likely scene of HDTV making its way into the Indian market, I see huge potential for the industry here."
