MUMBAI: Toei Animation Co Ltd. has licensed DVD distribution rights to its anime series One Piece to Dargaud-Lombard’s subsidiary Kana Home Video.

The announcement was made today by Toei's director of international department Kanji Kazahaya.

Under the agreement, Kana Home Video has acquired DVD distribution rights for the first 143 episodes for France, French-speaking territories (Luxemburg, Switzerland, Monaco, Andorra, French Dom-Tom and dependencies), Belgium and the Netherlands.

"Kana Home Video is a recognised industry leader in the distribution of the most prominent brands in animé entertainment," said Kazahaya. "We are delighted to join with this outstanding company in the launch of a new and enhanced version of One Piece for France and other markets."

The TV series adapts Japanese popular comics of the same title by Eiichiro ODA.

More than 340 episodes of this series have been aired since 1999 in Japan but new episodes continue to be produced today. The series currently airs in more than 13 counties all over the world.

Toei Animation is currently revising French dubbing with new voice castings to make One Piece more faithful to the original Japanese animation.
