MUMBAI:
Pan-Asian broadcaster ESPN Star Sports (ESS) has renewed rights
for golf's major championship The Masters from 2008 to 2010.
ESS
has been bringing The Masters to an Asia-wide audience since
2003 and this new deal will see the network bring live coverage
of all the four days' action from the grounds of the Augusta
National Golf Club, as the world's best golfers compete for
the celebrated green jacket.
As in previous years, ESS will support The Masters live coverage
with presentation packages including half-hour daily highlights
and live on-ground reports in English and in Mandarin.
ESS
MD Manu Sawhney says, "For players and fans alike, The
Masters represents a hallowed rite of passage with its rich
tradition and indelible imagery. We are pleased to be able
to continue bringing one of golf's biggest tournaments to
our viewers with this multi-year renewal."
This
latest multi-year acquisition is another feather in ESS' cap
of major golf championship properties which include The Open
Championship and The US Open. ESS has also secured multi-year
rights to the PGA Grand Slam of Golf, Asian Tour and the PGA
Euro Pro Tour, Mauritius Open and Ladies European Tour for
the 2008-2010 seasons.
ESS'
golf coverage is complemented by news updates on its online
platform www.espnstar.com and its original in-house production,
Golf Focus. Viewers can keep track of all the latest
news as it happens by logging on to www.espnstar.com for up-to-the-minute
results and highlights on the major golf tournaments.
Golf
Focus airs every Wednesday on Star Sports. Back for the
fourth season, Golf Focus is presented by Alan Wilkins
who, along with guest experts, dissects and discusses the
sport from every single angle. Each week, the show brings
highlights from tournaments and tours, profile professional
golfers from the region and internationally, tips how to improve
the game and an insight into the finer nuances of the game.
