The website, which currently does not plan to set up offices in India claiming
that it has a strong local partner in the form of Hungama Mobile,
decided to enter India, recognising the diversity of the countrys media,
entertainment and content landscape as the cultural nuances of the consumer.
Today,
India is the 4th largest internet market
in the world, accounting for approximately
15 per cent of all new traffic online. Total
internet users are 52 million and expected
to grow to over 200 million over the next
4 years. Hence, targeting India as our next
destination was but an obvious choice. Furthermore,
Bollywood, with its robust audience worldwide,
creates cultural consciousness across all
platform, whether that be theatrical, online
or video. Thus our target is to provide
a platform to Bollywood content that can
be accessed by all, Dailymotion
India managing director Raajh Singh.
We
have already tied-up with Mid-Day and Bollywood
Hungama wherein their content will be available
on our platform. We are also closing deals
with Eros, NDTV, Aaj Tak and Star Network,
Singh added.
Post setting its foot in India, Dailymotion will introduce the motion maker
programme that focuses on semi-professionals. We
will provide students and amateurs with free space where they can put in their
content for exposure. We have already tied-up with Whistling Woods International
wherein the students will get a chance to upload their work on Dailymotion
for viewing. Once the content gets good viewing we can think of monetising it,
stated Rappaport. Also,
Hungama Mobile will take the Dailymotion community to the mobile consumer
where video consumption is said to be quite high. Hungama
Mobile MD & CEO Neeraj Roy said, "We are delighted to partner with Dailymotion
which has already made a significant presence globally in a limited time of 3
years. We believe that platforms such Dailymotion would be ideal for discovering
video content across user generated content, creative and premium licensed and
we would like to enable that across internet and mobile. We are confident that
this tie-up will create a huge impact in the Indian online video sharing market
which is already showing signs of growth." |
