MUMBAI: BBC Worldwide has entered into a licensing agreement with Gameloft®, a global publisher and developer of video games for mobile phones, to create the official Top Gear: The Mobile Game for the UK market.

Based on the show, the game will give fans the chance to enjoy the Top Gear experience by applying the show’s approach to motoring entertainment to a mobile game.

The mobile game will give players the opportunity to race a power lap on a virtual version of the infamous Top Gear test track and to compete on their own personal power lapboard. The game will test player's skills with ambitious challenges and races. It will also allow gamers to attempt ambitious Top Gear style stunts like those seen on the TV programme.

Gameloft senior VP publishing Gonzague de Vallois says, "Top Gear is the world's number one motoring media brand and consistently achieves audience ratings unheard of for a factual entertainment programme. Its unique format makes it an ideal property to bring to mobile gaming.

“ By marrying Gameloft's expertise in mobile games with the show’s original approach to cars and unique sense of humour, Top Gear: The Mobile Game will appeal to fans of the show and also to both car and racing enthusiasts alike."

BBC Worldwide head of sales and business development digital media Peter Mercier says, "We know Top Gear is unique and highly entertaining, two elements that make it a perfect format to be turned into a mobile game.

"We continue to explore different avenues to share our content with an expanding audience and it seemed natural for BBC Worldwide to bring such a popular brand to the mobile arena."

The game will be available later this year.
