MUMBAI: Aksh Optifibre has signed an agreement with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) to provide IPTV services on the broadband network of the state-owned telecom major.

The IPTV services on the BSNL network will be in 20 cities across the northern region of India. These include cities spanning Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and UP (West).

The cost towards this project is expected to be Rs 5 billion. The company aims to have 10,000 subscribers over nine months.

Aksh already has a franchisee arrangement with MTNL in Delhi and Mumbai for IPTV and VoIP services.

MTNL has found it hard to rope in IPTV subscribers despite having an agreement with another franchisee, IOL Broadband, to roll out the services.
