MUMBAI: In a bid to keep a check on internet bandwidth usage, Time Warner Cable
Inc. has come up with a plan of metered internet use.
Time
Warner Cable rolled out the plan in Beaumont,
Texas, on Thursday. Any user, who goes over
their monthly gigabyte limit, will be charged
$1 per additional gigabyte, said an AP report.
Metered
billing is an attempt from Time Warner Cable
to deal fairly with Internet usage, which
is very uneven among its subscribers. The
company says just five per cent of subscribers
take up half of the capacity on local cable
lines.
The
move will limit average data usage, allowing
Time Warner to get more customers into their
existing fibre infrastructure.
