Sushma Singh to take over as I&B secretary

MUMBAI: Sushma Singh is to take over as secretary in the Information and Broadcasting ministry.

Singh is expected to take charge tomorrow.

An Indian Administrative Service officer from Jharkhand of the 1972 batch, Singh is presently secretary in the ministry for Panchayati Raj.

Prior to that, Singh has served as secretary in the ministry for North East affairs.

Singh told indiantelevision.com that it was too early for her to talk about her priorities in her new ministry.

In a move in the middle of the last month, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet announced repatriation of then secretary Asha Swarup to her parent cadre in Himachal Pradesh.

Ashok Chawla, secretary in the Civil Aviation ministry,was given additional charge as secretary of the I&B ministry for a period of three months or until further orders, whichever is earlier. Chawla belongs to the Gujarat cadre of the IAS. Both belong to the 1973 batch of the IAS.
