MUMBAI:
Neo Sports has announced an agreement with the Amaury Sport
Organisation to provide live coverage of the cycling tournament
Tour De France from 2008 to 2010.
The
channel will telecast the next edition of this tournament
live from 5 July at 3:30 pm. The tournament will continue
till 27 July.
Neo
Sports executive VP, strategy and business development Prasana
Krishnan said, "We at Neo are excited at the prospect
of partnering with Tour de France-the largest cycling event
in the world. The tournament is known to be the largest cycling
event in the world. With the acquisition of these rights,
we hope that fans of this sport will enjoy an exciting and
competitive tournament, and anticipate that this event will
generate significant audience interest in India."
Amaury
Sport Organisation deputy drector Yann Le Moenner says, "We
are delighted to announce that Neo Sports will become an official
broadcast partner of the Tour de France in the Indian sub-continent
and would bring this leading event to sports fans in the region.
Through this new partnership The Tour de France will be broadcast
throughout India on an extremely popular channel."
Started
in 1903, this event is a 23 days, 21-stage bicycle road race,
usually run over more than 3, 500 kilometres. The route traces
a circuit around most areas of France, and often passes into
neighboring countries. The race is broken into stages from
one town to another, each of which is an individual race.
The
time taken to complete each stage is added to a cumulative
total for each rider, to decide the outright winner at the
end of the Tour.
