MUMBAI: State-run cable television network Arasu Cable Corporation today kicked off its service in four districts - Thanjavur, Tiruchirapalli, Thiruvarur and Nagapattinam.

State chief minister M Karunanidhi launched the operations through a videoconference from the state secretariat.

Karunanidhi said the monthly cable TV charges for those subscribing to the feed would not exceed Rs 100. "The subscription rate for end-customers will be Rs 100 per month which would include, apart from free-to-air channels, some pay channels," said Karunanidhi.

"The corporation has been formed to help people, who had been paying monthly charges ranging from Rs 150 to Rs 300 per month," said Karunanidhi. "The government would take legal action to get the feed of some more pay channels, which had not given their consent to give their feed to the corporation."

Karunanidhi was referring to the Sun network which did not offer its group of Sun channels to the cable network.
