MUMBAI:
Ten Sports is yet to resolve the issue over the telecast rights
for Sri Lanka cricket.
Speaking
today to Indiantelevision.com, Taj Television CEO Chris McDonald
said the contract was legally binding and valid. "We
are now sitting with our legal advisors and are deciding on
our next course of action."
Ten Sports had signed a deal last year with Sri Lanka Cricket
(SLC) renewing its deal from 2009-2012. The period will see
India visit Sri Lanka again.
The
deal had been signed when Jayantha Dharmadasa was the SLC
interim committee chairman. But it was cancelled following
the findings of a special three-member committee headed by
the Secretary to the Sri Lankan Ministry of Sports and Public
Recreation S Liyanagama.
"I
have instructed SLC to cancel the television contract after
receiving the finding of a special three-member committee,"
Sri Lankan Sports Minister Gamini Lokuge had said last week.
McDonald
said he has already written a letter to SLC highlighting the
fact that Ten Sports has supported the board for a considerable
period of time.
McDonald
said India's tour of Sri Lanka which kicks off later this
month, will take place as scheduled. It is unaffected by the
current dispute, he added.
