BANGALORE:
Group M esp - Sports & Live Entertainment senior business
director Darshan M has quit the organisation and joined Deccan
Chargers Sporting Ventures (Deccan Chargers) as vice president
commercial operations.
In
his new role, Darshan will look after the business interests
(sales and marketing) of the IPL cricket team and other sporting
initiatives that will be undertaken in the near future.
I
will be involved in all aspects of Deccan Chargers, except
in all matters concerning the cricket team, said Darshan
while speaking with www.indiantelevision.com. My clear
objective is to see to it that the Deccan Chargers becomes
a 365-day team, not just a 45-day IPL outfit. The idea is
to take it out of the IPL and connect it with sports fans.
Darshan
will be reporting to Tim Wright who took over as CEO of the
team early last month after a 17-year stint with IMG London.
Before
joining Group M, Darshan founded Crossover Sports, a sports
event management company which he sold to his co-founder partner
Neeraj Verma sometime ago. Darshan has had stints at the Indian
Express and Star TV ad sales, besides which he had founded
a community cable channel - Channel Coorg - which he later
sold. He was also a consultant for tennis ace Mahesh Bhupathis
Globo Sport.
