DELHI: A new television serial on Doordarshans national
network DD One seeks to show how a determined woman can bring
about a change in her own lifestyle and even change the wandering
ways of her errant husband.
Anaro,
a series being telecast by Doordarshan under the classics
series Katha Sarita every Monday at 9:30 pm, is based
on the renowned novel by the late Manjul Bhagat.
It
is the story of Anaro, a woman who is brought from her village
with dreams of a great future with her newly-wedded husband
in Delhi. However, she realises, upon arrival in the capital,
that life is far harsher than she had ever realised in her
small hamlet.
Not
only does she have to face the havoc of demolition of the
slum she lives in, but realises that her husband is a drunkard
and also unfaithful. She is forced to fend for herself and
her two children, sometimes even helping her demanding husband.
Living in a slum, Anaro begins life as a house maid working
in several homes, in an effort to give the best possible education
to her children.
Starring
Alka Amin in the title role, the series is directed by National
School of Drama and FTII alumni Upender Sood and also has
Sanjeev Kumar, Kanupriya, Sanam, Aparna Ghosal, Alka Modha,
Purnima and Jyotsna Sood in the main cast.
