NEW DELHI: Following protests by several television broadcasters about the delay in permissions in getting clearances from the government, it has been decided that a cable operator may carry or include in his cable service any television broadcast or channel that applied on or before 11 May 2006.

According to a notification issued late last month, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry said such permission would be permitted up to 31 December 2007 "or till such registration has been granted or refused, whichever is earlier."

The announcement has been made as the Cable Operators Networks (Third Amendment) Rules by substituting the first proviso in Rule 6(6) of the Cable TV Network Regulations 1994.
