| MUMBAI:
Firangi, the yet to be launched World TV channel from the SaharaOne stable, has
recently bought out more than 1,000 hours of drama content, including Pages
of Life, which is a telenovella, and TV series America, from Brazil's
Globo TV International. Confirming
the news, Firangi business head Rajeev Chakrabarti says, "We have signed
deals with the biggest players across the world and we will churn out the best
of content for our viewers." Queried
about the details of the agreement, Hugo Aloy, Globo TV sales manager - Portugal
& Asia, informs, "We sold 1,000 hours and they (Firangi) selected two
star titles - Pages of Life and America. We did a volume deal agreement
for the next four years. Every year they are going to select two titles. We do
not know yet the two titles for 2009." Chakrabarti
adds that he is targeting a February launch for the channel. Firangi
had earlier completed the first phase of its acquisition by picking up 2,000 hours
of content at the trade event Mipcom, held in October 2007 in France. The channel
has already tied up with eight content providers. "We
are still in the process of closing many deals to get the best content for our
viewers. The deal with Globo International is one of them," adds Chakrabarti.
Firangi's
library so far consists of content from a variety of genres
like short stories, action thrillers, drama, romantic comedies
and telenovellas from regions like Europe, US and Latin America.
