MUMBAI:
US media conglomerate NBC Universal (NBCU) has announced the
joining of Salil Mehta as president of business operations,
strategy and development.
An ESPN veteran, Mehta will be responsible for leading NBCU's
global business strategy and corporate development activities,
including identifying industry trends and investment opportunities
and continuing to shift the company's portfolio toward high-growth
areas.
NBCU
CEO Jeff Zucker says, "Salil is a first-rate strategic
thinker and dealmaker, with a proven track record. He's got
a knack for picking the right opportunities at the right time.
Coupled with his operational experience, this makes Salil
a great addition to our team."
At
ESPN, Mehta served as executive VP of ESPN Enterprises, with
general management responsibilities for all of ESPN's non-broadcasting
businesses including new media, broadband, mobile, publishing,
videogames and consumer products businesses.
Under
his management, ESPN.com strengthened its position in online
sports, and Mehta led the transition from ESPN's MVNO mobile
business model to an innovative licencing agreement with Verizon
Wireless.
