MUMBAI:
MTV India has launched the fifth edition of its flagship reality
programme Roadies with 13 contestants. This time, MTV
has taken Roadies' contestants to Thailand and Malaysia
for MTV Hero Honda Roadies 5.0. The series will hit
the TV screen every Saturday starting 9 February.
Unveiling
the details of the new format to the press on Tuesday night
were Roadies 2003 winner and MTV VJ Ranvijay, Roadies producer
and judge Raghu Ram, MTV India GM and VP (creative and content)
Ashish Patil.
For
the latest edition of Roadies, MTV has collaborated with Tips
Industries' upcoming action film Race. Saif Ali Khan,
Bipasha Basu, director duo Abbas-Mastan and Tips MD Ramesh
Taurani were also present at the press meet.
"The
young generation is fed up of drama, acting and bakwaas
that reality shows are serving them today. They want thrill,
which is what Roadies is all about - thrill, adventure
and the passion to win. That is why Roadies is the
longest running reality show. It is in its fifth year now,"
said Patil. "Every year, we have questions on what next,
how to make Roadies bigger, more mean and slicker.
Therefore, we decided to take it outside India, with tagline
unke ilaake main unhi se panga."
Raghu
Ram said, "This time 75000 people auditioned for MTV
Roadies 5.0. This shows how much craze people have for
the hard-hit reality show. We have zeroed in on 13 contestants
- six girls and seven boys - who will start their dangerous
journey for the title of Roadies."
Commenting
on its partnership with the film Race, Patil said: "Race
is parallel to the Roadies spirit of speed, thrill
and adventure. We are happy to be partner with it.
MTV
also has planned a "Race with Roadies Contest" wherein
one character of the film Race will be revealed every
week on Roadies right after the elimination round. To participate
in the contest, viewers have to identify the character; the
winners will get a chance to attend a special screening of
Race with the stars of the film, and Roadies anchor
Rannvijay Singh. Participants can also win merchandise and
CDs of Race.
The
contest will begin with the show on 9 February and will continue
till 15 March.
Taurani
said, "We have great relationship with MTV, and Roadies
is a fantastic platform for Race as they both are
seeking to excite the youth and enthrall them with speed,
adventure and action. We hope that we are able to create a
synergy that captivates the audience and keeps them at the
edge of their seat."
