MUMBAI: Motorola is weighing the option of separating mobile devices from its other businesses. This, the company believes, will help permit each business segment to grow and better serve its customers.

"We are exploring the structural and strategic realignment of our businesses to better equip our mobile devices business to recapture global market leadership and enhance shareholder value," the company said in a statement.

Motorola's mobile device business has faced falling sales and lost market share.

Motorola president and CEO Greg Brown said, "We are exploring ways in which our mobile devices business can accelerate its recovery and retain and attract talent while enabling our shareholders to realise the value of this great franchise."

The company further stated that it does not intend to discuss developments with respect to the exploration of strategic alternatives unless or until its board of directors has approved a definitive transaction or the process is otherwise complete. However, Motorola has not informed when this transaction will occur.
