Archery gets 950 million TV viewers

MUMBAI: The International Archery Federation (FITA) has announced that as per a recent anaylsis its event got a cumulative 950 million TV viewers throughout last year

TV channels that have shown archery include Zee Sports, Ten Sports, Doordarshan, Neo Sports (India), Eurosport, ESPN Star Sports (Pan Asia), Fox Sport International (Pan Middle East and Africa), MBC and KBS (Korea), CCTV (China), Al Jazeera Sports, ART Arab (Pan Middle East), Sky Sports and Setanta Sports (UK) and Rai Sports (Italy).

FITA is managing its own production and distribution of TV images together with the HTR company and the European Broadcasting Union.

The federation adds that it will strive for a bigger television audience in 2008 and will also please the Internet fans with a new http://www.archery.tv/ with free videos, highlights and magazines on YouTube.

The analysis reports that news coverage got 585 million viewers; live coverage, together with highlights, got 330 million viewers, and feature magazine shows saw 37 million viewers tuning in.

44 channels showed the archery live programmes or the official 26-minute highlights for a total of 222 hours of broadcasting covering seven events of Meteksan Archery World Cup and Archery World Championships.

This is twice as many TV channels compared to 2006. Two of the major broadcast successes have been the Leipzig World Championships and the Dubai World Cup Final in the magnificent Madinat Jumeirah. Archery enjoyed live coverage from 8 and 11 TV channels for the Leipzig and Dubai events, respectively.
