MUMBAI: US media conglomerate News Corp has announced that former White House chief speechwriter Bill McGurn has been appointed as VP.

The 49-year-old will oversee major speeches and contribute to News Corp publications.

McGurn had previously served as a speechwriter for News Corp chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch. He says, “Bill made a financial sacrifice to serve our country in a time of war, and I am delighted to welcome him back.”

McGurn spent the past three years as chief speechwriter for President Bush, where he directed a team that included six other speechwriters, and was responsible for all the President’s public speeches.

Before joining News Corp, McGurn had a long career in journalism at Dow Jones that included postings in Europe and Asia, as well as a stint as chief editorial writer for The Wall Street Journal.

He said, “Most of my life has been spent with newspapers. I’m excited to be back with the most dynamic media company in the world, which is transforming the news business for the 21st century. I look forward to working with Mr Murdoch, and helping in any way I can.”
