MUMBAI:
Action-oriented broadcaster AXN has announced that the second
season of its reality show The Amazing Race Asia did
well in Singapore and Malaysia during its final episode on
14 February 2008.
The
channel says that its lead over other international cable
channels that night made it number one especially among the
PMEB audience.
Quoting
data from TNS Singapore and AGB NMR Malaysia, the channel
says that it was ahead of other international cable channels
during the 9-10 pm time slot. It adds that the finale even
outperformed all terrestrial channels in Malaysia.
Online,
the AXN site recorded over 17 million page views since October
2007, more than double of what the first season had.
The
finale was a close fight between the top three teams - Singaporean
gym buddies Collin Low and Adrian Yap, Malaysian sisters Vanessa
and Pamela Chong, as well as favourites Marc Nelson and Rovilson
Fernandez from the Philippines.
Singapore
viewers were obviously rooting for the home team billed as
the underdogs, as Marc and Rovilson from the Philippines
had been leading the pack almost throughout the entire race.
Likewise, the Malaysian sisters also had a huge group of loyal
supporters from Malaysia, as they were all hoping for a repeat
of Malaysia teams victory in the first season where
best friends Zabrina and Joe Jer emerged champions.
The
three teams travelled 51,534 km across 10 countries in 24
days, with the duo from Singapore beating nine other teams
to win in the final round and walking away with a US$100,000
cash prize. The fact that history was created with Adrian
being the first hearing-impaired contestant to have won the
competition, Rovilson revealed, It couldnt have
ended better. We all love underdogs who beat the big bad team
its a producers and fans dream. With
their victory, its a victory for everybody.
SPE
Networks Asia GM Ricky Ow says, It was nail-biting
from start to finish, with Adrian and Collin coming from behind
to clinch the top prize. This is certainly a dream ending
for any reality-competition show and the viewers in particular,
as it clearly shows that anything can happen in The Amazing
Race Asia.
We
are very pleased with the ratings results, and would like
to thank all the viewers and sponsors who have shown tremendous
support and commitment to the production and the show. We
have started calling for registration for Season 3, and look
forward to another amazing race.
