Karanjia set new landmarks in journalism: PM

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has described veteran journalist R K Karanjia as a ‘respected and veteran journalist who received acclaim and recognition within and outside India for his rich contribution to the world of journalism’.

In a message to condole the death of the journalist, Singh said ‘his outstanding achievements, as a media personality set many new landmarks in the field of journalism’.

‘I convey my heartfelt condolences to the members of his bereaved family and to his numerous friends, associates and admirers. I pray that the departed soul may rest in peace.’

Founder editor of the now defunct tabloid Blitz Russi Karanjia passed away in Mumbai on Friday afternoon at his residence in Mumbai.

He was 95. Karanjia was brother of noted film journalist B K Karanjia, a former editor of ‘Filmfare’. He is survived by his daughter Rita Mehta.

Born on 15 September, 1912, Russi Karanjia was one of the boldest editors in Indian Journalism. He was an assistant editor with The Times of India before he left it in the 1940s to launch Blitz.
