MUMBAI: Sony Pictures Television International (SPTI) has announced that it will represent light entertainment producer Strix Television's complete catalogue in all of Asia, excluding Japan.

This deal comes on the heels of a deal that SPTI signed with Strix Television in October 2007 to represent their catalogue in all of Latin America.

"Sony Pictures Television International is thrilled to team up with Strix Television to bring these highly successful, creative formats to Asian audiences. We have an outstanding track record and long history in licencing and co-producing scripted and unscripted formats in Asia, and the deal marks a great step forward in expanding our light entertainment portfolio," said SPTI EVP and MD Todd Miller.

Strix Television CEO Robert Aschberg said, "We have a strong catalogue and this agreement will enable us to strengthen our position in the international market even more. We are confident that SPTI's long experience of scripted and unscripted format sales in Asia will make this cooperation a success."

The new deal promises to bring fresh and unique ideas to the unscripted marketplace in Asia, leading to the successful adaptation of Strix formats in the Asian market.

Under the exclusive deal, SPTI will represent over 70 formats from Strix for licence to Asian broadcasters or for SPTI to directly produce. Among the popular formats included in the deal are The Farm, The Bar, Phone Booth, A Chef in the Family, Floor Filler, Happy Hour, LOL, And Action and Kids in Charge.
