MUMBAI: Hathway Cable & Datacom is set to launch India's first cable digital video recorder (DVR) service with NDS XTV DVR technology.

Korea-based Humax will be the set-top box (STB) supplier. "We will be soft launching the service in July. We have signed up with NDS. The box price is not yet crystallised. The launch of NDS' XTV DVR services is part of our ongoing strategy to offer consumers in India the very best pay television services in the market," says Hathway Cable & Datacom MD & CEO K Jayaraman.

NDS Group plc, a majority owned subsidiary of News Corp. that supplies open end-to-end digital technology and services to digital pay-television platform operators and content providers, will start deploying its new XTV DVR in the current year. It will give subscribers control over what they watch and when they watch it.

In partnership with NDS, Hathway can now deliver a compelling combination of broadcast and On-Demand digital television to Indian cable subscribers.

The new technology allows subscribers to pause, record, play back, rewind and fast-forward their broadcast cable TV channels for viewing when they choose. Viewers can record one program while playing another, or record both simultaneously.

NDS Asia Pacific VP and GM Sue Taylor said, "Hathway's NDS XTV powered DVR will enhance the way its subscribers are able to view content."
