MUMBAI:
European broadcaster Eurosport has announced an increase in
the number of audiences for the 2008 edition of the Africa
Cup of Nations.
The
soccer event had aired from 20 January - 10 February.
Eurosport
scored its best-ever audience for this soccer tournament since
its coverage began in 1994, with 80.5 million different viewers,
up from 70 million in 2006 and 59 million in 2004.
The
Egypt vs Cameroon final was watched by an average of three
million viewers per quarter of an hour, with a peak at 4.3
million for the last 15 minutes of the match.
Eurosport
Group chairman Laurent-Eric Le Lay says, "The Eurosport
Group is a committed partner of the African Cup of Nations,
having broadcast live all tournaments since 1994. We are delighted
to see that our goal to continuously improve our coverage
and bring exciting innovations to viewers has led to these
record figures in 2008.

African Cup of Nations is one of the jewels of our football
offer and we are proud to afford it great exposure and promotion
across 59 countries in Europe. In addition, Eurosport Asia-Pacific
was the exclusive broadcaster of the tournament in that region,
reaching fans across nine further countries."
