BANGALORE: The second edition of the Kannada film awards ceremony – the Sunfeast Udaya Film Awards 2007 - will be held in Bangalore on 9 March 2008. The announcement was made by Sunfeast group manager Devrajan Iyer and Sun TV director Selvam in Bangalore on Sunday.

Last year, the event drew more than 10,000 people. This year the organisers expect crowds numbering 50,000. Hence the venue has been shifted to the Palace Grounds in Bangalore.

There were 98 Kannada films made in 2007. In this edition, there will be 25 categories of awards, of which five categories will cover popular awards - best actor, best actress, best film, best director, and best music director. The other categories will cover technical excellence in various fields. A lifetime achievement award will be given to film personality-turned politician Ambareesh. Actor and director Ravichandran will receive a commemoration for having completed 25 years in the film industry.

The popular awards will be decided by a jury and public votes by SMS, email and post. The jury comprising four prominent members from the film industry will be headed by actor, producer and director Dwarkesh, whose recent Kannada film Apthamitra has been declared a super hit.

The technical awards winners will be selected by the jury. Besides Kannada films, Dwarkesh has acted/produced or directed films in some other South Indian languages as well as Hindi films for Bollywood.

Besides Sunfeast, the main sponsor of the awards ceremony, four associate sponsors are likely to be announced shortly. To get the maximum participation from across the state, more especially the rural areas, Udaya will be running promos across its Kannada group channels as well Sun’s SFM requesting people to cast their votes. Sunfeast will be conducting road shows in 20 districts of the state, and will hold contests to attract people to participate in the voting process.
