MUMBAI:
US media conglomerate NBC Entertainment and Universal Media
Studios co-chairman Ben Silverman has been chosen to receive
this year's Honourary Rose at the Rose
d'Or Festival.
The
event takes place from 2-6 May in Lucerne, Switzerland.
The
Honourary Rose is presented to an individual who has made
a significant impact on the television industry.
Past
recipients include Benny Hill, Quincy Jones, Monty Python,
John de Mol, Herb Granath, Ricky Gervais, and most recently
Ben Elton last year.
Festival
director Urban Frye says, "I would like to congratulate
Ben Silverman on being awarded the prestigious Honourary Rose."
He
added: "The winner of this award is carefully considered
by the Rose d'Or organisation and presented to someone who
is renowned in the industry for their contribution to television.
We look forward to welcoming Ben to the shores of Lake Lucerne
in May."
Each year, the Rose d'Or draws the best of the year's new
television programming, representing approximately 40 countries
worldwide.
Entry
forms for the Rose d'Or competition are sent to more than
2,000 producers and broadcasters, internationally.
This year, eight Rose d'Or Awards will be presented to the
top winners in comedy, sitcom, drama, entertainment, reality,
game show, arts documentary and performing arts.
In addition to the Honourary Rose for Silverman, an award
for Best Entertainer and Best of 2008 will be presented to
the most outstanding performer and outstanding programme,
respectively, across all genres of programming.
