BANGALORE: The Karnataka State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (KSCDRC) president Justice Chandrasekharan has dismissed an appeal filed by a cable operator and a public electric power supply company Bescom against an order by the District Consumer Forum – Davangere (DCFD).

DCFD had ordered a dish/cable TV operator/supplier of Haralahalli village, Bescom Davangere superintending engineer (Elect), Bescom Harihara executive engineer and Honnalli town assistant executive engineer to pay up to Rs 200,000 as compensation to HM Manjunath, the complainant.

Manjunath had filed a complaint with DCFD against Bescom and the cable operator for the death of his son Dhanajaya, who was electrocuted while trying to fix a cable wire to a television set and died on the way to hospital.

Manjunath alleged that the cable wire was drawn along with an electric wire and the current passed through the cable wire, leading to his son’s death.

DCFD had earlier ruled that Bescom had allowed the cable operator to draw the cable wire through the electric pole along with the electric wire illegally and that Bescom, being an authority, was required to provide safety measures to consumers and should not have allowed this illegal act.
