| MUMBAI:
In what can be termed as a blow to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the Sri Lankan
tour to Pakistan appears doubtful. The
tour, consisting of three Tests, five one-day internationals and one T20 match,
was scheduled for next month. However, the fate of the tour is uncertain following
recent developments in the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) board. On
Tuesday, Sri Lankan sports minister Gamini Lokuge dissolved the interim set-up
of SLC and sacked its chairman Arjuna Ranatunga. Apparently, Ranatunga only had
agreed to send the team to Pakistan. As
per various media reports, PCB officials will be meeting their SLC counterparts
at the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday to decide on the
fate of the tour. While
dissolving Ranatunga's administration, Lokuge had mentioned that his decisions
- presumably including the one to tour Pakistan - will be reconsidered.
Sri Lanka agreed
to tour Pakistan after India cancelled its scheduled tour in the wake of last
month's Mumbai attacks. Also, many countries have refused to travel to Pakistan
over security fears, leaving Pakistan without a Test match for over a year. |
