NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting has given the nod to a local NGO to establish, maintain and operate a community radio station (CRS) in Gulbarga, Karnataka.

The letter of intent had been issued to the Sharanbasaveshwar Vidya Vardhak Sangha on 8 May after passing through the Screening Committee and requisite approvals from various ministries.

As per the agreement, the CRS will become operational within three months from now, thereby increasing the number of CRS in India to 39.

The new CRS in Gulbarga aims to serve the communities in the region, particularly girls, women, farmers and students with the intention to empower them.
