Murdoch calls on Pawar's Sakaal group in Pune

MUMBAI: News Corporation chairman Rupert Murdoch today called on the Sakaal group which belongs to the family of Union agriculture minister and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chief Sharad Pawar.

As confirmed by sources, Murdoch and his team had a lunch meeting with Sakaal group MD Pratap G Pawar, director Abhijit Pawar, Sakaal Times editorial director Dileep Padgaonkar, TV projects head Sanjay Dabke along with other senior members of the company.

The agenda of the meeting was not known till the filing of this report. When contacted, Dabke confirmed the meeting to Indiantelevision.com. "Yes, we had a meeting, but I cannot disclose any details."

Headquartered in Pune, Sakaal operations consist of three Marathi and two English dailies and a slew of Marathi and English magazines.

As reported earlier by Indiantelevision.com, the group is also planning to launch Marathi regional channel Saam TV.
